MAKING COURSE
Feb 28th, 2006
By

Director
(Christian AIDS Network)

Above is a
group of women who have successfully gone through a one week seminar under the
CAN instructors in ways to make different jewels from magazines. It is the
desire of Christian AIDS Network to see that our members learn as many skills as
we could train in a way to help them find means of living and to help in the
fight of stigma. This seminar is now the 5th successful seminar after the others
where 2 were in counseling and Business. We intend to continue this trend as
often as we get some funds on us to feed and pay for the necessary expenses.
‘CAN’
VILLAGE VISITS STORY IS QUITE APPALLING

Christian AIDS Network (CAN)
is
an Inter-denominational Non Government Organization which started in the year
2003 with aims of providing counseling, helping to remove the stigma in the
churches and rescuing the widows, orphans and all the disadvantaged ones from
the suffering that they face because of HIV/AIDS and other calamities. We offer
Christian counseling to people infected and affected with HIV/AIDS at all levels
with the awareness of their needs, keeping in mind that knowing is only ‘half
of the battle’. The other half is doing.
We all know that all people in Uganda do have at least a single village
where they originated or those they consider being the heart of their life. And
visiting that village gives them joy and happiness, most especially when all the
people found in their village when they are still living and exchanging the
smiles with their guests.
Recently, the Directors and all the supporting staffs of Christian AIDS
Network (CAN) in their respective categories organized their village visits to
some few villages like Butaswa,
Kyabirwa, Kirongo and soon visiting many others. We
all went with the purpose to encourage our support group members. We went with a
list of names for our members in our files of each of the villages we visited
respectively.
However, It was quite appalling to produce our lists out and many of the
member’s names that we read out, ‘the majority had already passed away
leaving behind off springs that really do need our attention and some seriously
sick, unable to attend the meeting.’ Indeed it is a clear demand.
One thing we can assert with confidence: as never before human being is
a threatened species. (Bruce Milne … Know the truth 2nd Ed- 1998)

Today, village visits continues to haunt us despite
the fact that we cannot keep our visits to each village very close due to our
limited resources. Yet every time we need to go to villages to meet with our
support groups, we do have to first hire a van. Each and every newborn day we
are receiving new entrants (Members) and witnessing some disappearing away from
our eyes (dying).
Our
recent visit to our support groups in the villages though quite appalling was to
much needed and edified our members because we managed to give each support
group a pair of piglets (Female and Male) and some feeds for start. We read
happiness and joy in their eyes. It is our prayer and wish to make our village
visit regular and effective so that our member can easily see the Invisible
hands of the Almighty God cutting deep in their heart.
